Moving into a care home is a major life change.
For many people it is as a result of a change in personal circumstances—Maybe the death of a partner, or a decline in mental and or physical health.
For whatever the reason, leaving your home is an emotional wrench, all the precious memories that have to be left behind. Sadly, going into a care home can often be a muddled, chaotic event that leaves everyone exhausted.
At Resthaven we are in an unique position to improve this situation, we actively encourage trial visits by prospective residents. This provides the individual and their family a chance to meet others, sample the food and really get a feel of the place before making that all important decision. All our staff are trained to assist new residents and their relatives during the often difficult and emotional transition period, to ensure the move is as stress free as possible for everyone concerned and provide a warm welcome to their new home. After all, many older people in care homes feel that moving to a care home gave them a new lease of life, a new beginning. With the opportunity to make new friends, feel safe and secure, be able to sleep soundly at night, in the knowledge there is always someone there to help them. This also applies to family who have previously had concerns over elderly relatives living alone.

Resthaven is a small friendly family run home that has been owned and run by the Clarke family since 1984, situated in the quiet West Cliff area of Herne Bay, a short level walk from the sea front, enabling our qualified staff to accompany residents on walks or wheelchair outings to enjoy the panoramic sea views and in August (weather permitting) Herne Bay Carnival.

Our location is ideally situated with easy access to the main bus route, serving Herne Bay and surrounding areas. The main line railway station is only a short walk away and the Thanet Way (A299) links directly with the M2 motorway.

Our fully trained staff are always available to assist residents twenty four hours a day. Our prime consideration is that residents should never feel deprived of their individuality or privacy and are encouraged to remain as independent as they wish. We have regular visits from a Hairdresser and Chiropodist.

Residents are encouraged to persue their religious beliefs and visits are encouraged to enable this.Regular Church Services are held at Resthaven for those who wish to attend.

Our aim is for residents to be as happy as possible and feel able to call Resthaven their home, therefore visitors are most welcome at all times and we encourage residents to entertain guests as they wish in their rooms or in communal areas.

Resthaven is registered under the Care Homes Act 2000, with the Care Quality Commision, to view inspection reports click here

At Resthaven we place a strong emphasis on staff training and encourage staff to achieve    NVQ Awards at levels 2, 3 and 4. All our staff are trained to exceed mandatory standards within health & social care regulations. Our Deputy Manager, Sue Neal, has a Registered Managers Award, Staff training is on-going and up-dated to meet statutory requirements on a regular basis to enable us to provide the best possible care to our residents.
